In 1986, Eddie and his friends are just kids on the verge of adolescence. They spend their days biking around their sleepy English village and looking for any taste of excitement they can get. The chalk men are their secret code: little chalk stick figures they leave for one another as messages only they can understand. But then a mysterious chalk man leads them right to a dismembered body, and nothing is ever the same.

In 2016, Eddie is fully grown and thinks he's put his past behind him, but then he gets a letter in the mail containing a single chalk stick figure. When it turns out that his friends got the same message, they think it could be a prank--until one of them turns up dead. That's when Eddie realizes that saving himself means finally figuring out what really happened all those years ago.

I saw this a while back and was so excited when it was one the choices for Book of the Month, so of course I had to get it. I kinda stalked the mail-lady for to deliver it too, but I am pleased to say all the stalking was worth it! It was such amazing read…

The Chalk Man centers around Eddie and a few other boys and one lone girl, they were always together, but this summer was one unforgettable summer, and not in a good way either. The 80’s were describe just how I remember them, from the events going on in the world around them, going back and forth to friends houses, to the biking riding and tromping in the woods until sunset. There was even rough housing between the boys that turned into awful and brutal bullying. Now, Eddie and his group of friends had made up their secret code with drawing chalk men, each had their own color. It was all fun and games, till the chalk man drawing lured them to the woods and what they found is something they would never forget. A young girls dismembered body. As the years go by, the memory of this awful day still haunts them.

Each chapter told in alternating timelines. The 1986 was Eddie as he tells what happened all those years, well from his memory of it. As well as the 2016 timeline, now as an adult. He still hasn’t left his childhood home even after all these years. A few of the original group is still in town, but of course some tried to escape the horrors they witnessed. Now, they might have grown apart over the years, but when a mysterious chalk man drawing and a piece of chalk shows in the mail for Eddie, they all realize the past doesn’t always stay there. Now, the question is, do they really know what happened all those years ago to the girl, was it the truth? Or was their something more to it?

The story is filled with so many half truths, and mystery and some bone chilling moments, but I was so drawn into their world, that I couldn’t stop turning the pages. I just had to know everything that happened, and the twist at the end was perfect. Shocked Me! All I have to say is, I am pretty impressed that this is Tudor debut novel. It certainly checked all the boxes of things I want in a thriller. It was freakin’ fantastic!

I just got this yesterday after reading some great reviews. I am so excited. I love the throwback to the eighties… I just finished Ready Player One another book brimming with all things 80s/ This one has a strong IT vibe for me, so I excited to dig in.

Yay, I’m so glad to hear you enjoyed this one! I’ve been really looking forward to it ever since I first stumbled upon it (I think the title’s what hooked me – it sounds like a Criminal Minds episode!). Wonderful review!
