A Boston crime reporter teams up with a hot FBI agent to find her missing sister but the closer they work together, the harder it becomes to keep their relationship strictly professional in this steamy and suspenseful romance.
Chloe Sterling needs a break. A relentless crime reporter for The Boston Times, she’s dedicated her entire life to the pursuit of the truth no matter the cost. But when she gets suspended for bending the rules one time too many, she decides to take a much-needed vacation and visit her twin sister Eden in Los Angeles.
But when Chloe arrives and finds her sister missing, her reporter’s intuition kicks in. Although local law enforcement believes she’s run off with an ex-boyfriend, Chloe knows better: something is seriously wrong and if the cops aren’t going to find Eden, Chloe’s going to do it herself.
That’s when Special Agent Gage Pierce steps in.
A programmer who singlehandedly stopped the largest human trafficking ring known to date, Gage’s expertise is just what Chloe needs to track down her sister. But since he plays the strong and silent type, Chloe finds herself putting just as much effort into cracking him as she does into cracking the case. As the two work together and get closer to finding Eden, their feelings for each other intensify. With the clock ticking and time running out, will Chloe and Gage be able to rescue Eden in time and also continue their blossoming affair? Or is it lights out forever?
Blood & Lace centers around one insistent woman and her missing sister and a hot FBI agent. It will be the first book in the Dark Net series, and it sure was a good start too.
Chloe is journalist, who cut corners on a story and got caught. So, what does she do, she decides to take a vacation from her job and lie and goes to visit her sister in Las Angelos. But, Eden isn’t there when she arrives, no big deal. But the next day she still hasn’t come home, and is no where to be found. Chloe tries to go and report her missing, and local law enforcement blow her off, telling her that she’s an adult and maybe she just ran off with a guy or something. But for Chloe, it doesn’t sound right for Eden to do that, and with as many crime stories she has written something doesn’t feel right about her isters disappearance. She uses her journalists resources and finds a FBI agent that might be able to help her. Gage Pierce.
Gage Pierce at first glance is gorgeous! But he is an ass. He is standoffish and gruff with Chloe even after she tells him everything she thinks might be going on with her sisters disappearance. He’s good at his job, and he is exactly the person she needs to help her though and she is not going to take no for answer. He does come around to her way of thinking, and looks into it. As he story progressed, we got to see a different side of him. One that matches his gorgeous exterior. He has a soft side underneath all that gruffness.
Chloe puts herself in some dangerous situations, but her love for her sister gave her this incredible strength and determination. And with Gage’s experience, they did make a good team. Even if he did stay an ass for the most part, he did try and keep her Chloe safe. They were attracted to each other, that was clear with all the steaminess between them. But his priority was his job and the case at hand, which I could understand. As the case slowly unravels, it comes ubundabtly clear this is connected to a case he has worked on before and things get even more dangerous and the suspense became the edge of your seat, turn the page as fast as you can kind. And the ending was fantastic.
This turned out to be a great romantic suspense read, and a really good setup for the series to continue. I look forward to the next installment, and be on the lookout for more information from the author as to when that will be. Fans of romance/suspense will enjoy this one for sure.
