Can’t-Wait Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted here, at Wishful Endings, to spotlight and discuss the books we’re excited about that we have yet to read. Generally they’re books that have yet to be released. It’s based on Waiting on Wednesday, hosted by the fabulous Jill at Breaking the Spine. If you’re continuing with WOW, feel free to link those up as well!

Lighthouses are something that has always fascinated me, so of course this caught my attention and the courage alone of these two young women made me intrigued me even more. They are two very different young women, from different times, it sounds like it will be an amazing read and an inspirational one as well!

What are you waiting on this week?

“They call me a heroine, but I am not deserving of such accolades. I am just an ordinary young woman who did her duty.”

1838: Northumberland, England. Longstone Lighthouse on the Farne Islands has been Grace Darling’s home for all of her twenty-two years. When she and her father rescue shipwreck survivors in a furious storm, Grace becomes celebrated throughout England, the subject of poems, ballads, and plays. But far more precious than her unsought fame is the friendship that develops between Grace and a visiting artist. Just as George Emmerson captures Grace with his brushes, she in turn captures his heart.

1938: Newport, Rhode Island. Nineteen-years-old and pregnant, Matilda Emmerson has been sent away from Ireland in disgrace. She is to stay with Harriet, a reclusive relative and assistant lighthouse keeper, until her baby is born. A discarded, half-finished portrait opens a window into Matilda’s family history. As a deadly hurricane approaches, two women, living a century apart, will be linked forever by their instinctive acts of courage and love.

Historical fiction and a dual timeline? I’m in! I didn’t read Gaynor’s last book, but I have liked one of her previous ones.

  2. The Candid Cover

It’s been awhile since I have read a good historical. This one sounds like it has the right amount of drama that I would love. I will have to check this one out. 🙂

  3. Eve

Historical isn’t my normal cup of tea but it sounds nice i hope it’s everything you want and more!

Lighthouses are awesome, I’ve been fortunate enough to have several in our general area and they’re fascinating. So much history. I like dual time lines too- this one looks like a great read Jenea!

Oh, this is truly an AMAZING pick, Jenea!! I think that lighthouses are fascinating, although I haven’t really seen any up close and personal. But I would LOVE to! Plus the fact that there are two female protagonists, linked across two different eras in time, makes this a MUST-ADD to my GR shelves! Thanks for featuring it!! 🙂

Thanks as well for commenting on my own CWW post!! <3 <3 <3 🙂 🙂
