It’s been twelve years since tragedy struck the senior class of Long Acre High School. Only a few students survived that fateful night—a group the media dubbed The Ones Who Got Away.

Liv Arias thought she’d never return to Long Acre—until a documentary brings her and the other survivors back home. Suddenly her old flame, Finn Dorsey, is closer than ever, and their attraction is still white-hot. When a searing kiss reignites their passion, Liv realizes this rough-around-the-edges cop might be exactly what she needs…

Liv’s words cut off as Finn got closer. The man approaching was nothing like the boy she’d known. The bulky football muscles had streamlined into a harder, leaner package and the look in his deep green eyes held no trace of boyish innocence.

It’s been twelve years since a tragedy occurred, an tragedy that no child should ever have to deal with. Liv has found herself reliving it for an upcoming documentary about the school shooting at Long Acre High School. Not only is she reliving the tragedy, she comes face to face with a ghost from the past. Finn. He was her high school love.

Finn has such guilt over the events that transpired that day in regards to Liv, things that he can never change. I found Liv to be a fairly charismatic and smart woman, she’s kind and caring. But lives with those memories of that fateful day. This is something that I can’t ever imagine going through, or my children going thought either. Yes, they’ve grown up, but have they really moved on from it? But, their lives now are not without issues that they have to work through and work out.

This was filled with such raw emotions from Liv and Finn, I enjoyed their banter back and forth and the soft moments between them. Through it all, there is some peace and happiness, happiness that neither of them thought would happen. I enjoyed this so much, as I am a sucker for the second chances reads, but this had another message in there which I thought was very well handled. Overall, this is one that I would certainly recommend. I was happy to see how the series will give a couple new characters in the next book, and I was thrilled to be able to have a copy of it already too.

Most days Rebecca Lindt feels like an imposter…
The world admires her as a survivor. But that impression would crumble if people knew her secret. She didn’t deserve to be the one who got away. But nothing can change the past, so she’s thrown herself into her work. She can’t dwell if she never slows down.

Wes Garrett is trying to get back on his feet after losing his dream restaurant, his money, and half his damn mind in a vicious divorce. But when he intervenes in a mugging and saves Rebecca―the attorney who helped his ex ruin him―his simple life gets complicated.

Their attraction is inconvenient and neither wants more than a fling. But when Rebecca’s secret is put at risk, both discover they could lose everything, including what they never realized they needed: each other

She laughed and kissed him. This morning she’d melted down. But somehow this man had her laughing and turned on only a few hours later. Everything inside her felt buoyed.

She felt…light.

She’d forgotten what that felt like.

This is the second installment for the series, and this time around we have two new characters and their stories. This time we have Rebecca and Wes’ story who meet after all the these years after school.

Wes’ life is a mess, he is spiraling down hill with all the drinking, the divorce, you name it. I felt just awful for him. He feels something that he hasn’t felt in years when Rebecca walks back into this life. And it was great to see Rebecca from the first book, especially for Wes. Rebecca has become a little jaded when it comes to love, but I guess being a divorce attorney can do that to you, seeing the bad mostly when it comes to marriage. I really liked her, and was hoping that maybe Wes’ would be able to change her outlook on love again and maybe be what he needs as well.

I enjoyed this one, it had it raw and emotional moments when they were having to relive that day just the same as Liv and Finn had to. But the second chance at love was such a great addition, making me both cry and smile too. I know that the third installment has a little bit of a wait to it, but Loren has done such an amazing job with sucking me in, I know it will be well worth the wait.

  1. Quinn's Book Nook

I have heard wonderful things about these two books. I’m so glad you enjoyed them, too. These might be a bit too much for me at the moment (I’ve been gravitating towards funnier reads) but I definitely have them on my tbr for someday.

I love Loren’s books, including these two. How much of a wait is it until the 3rd? I need to investigate. 😀

  3. Tanya @ Girl Plus Books

I enjoyed both of these so, so much. Even more than I anticipated. They really did pack an emotional punch and I was surprised at how much I cam to care for all the main characters. I can’t wait for the third book… January seems sooo far away!
