Review for House Of Shadows by Nicola Cornick

Review for House Of Shadows by Nicola Cornick

The House of Shadows takes us through a story of three women, from three different times who have many things things in common even though they have never met. How could this not draw your attention, it certainly had mine.

The story is give to us from the 16th and 18th century and the present, and from these times we meet these very strong women. They might have come from these very different times, but have a lot more in common than you would think. The historical aspects of each time period were vividly described, especially Ashdown, but being that I an mot all that familiar with the 1600’s nor the 1800’s I did have a little bit of difficulty …

Review for The Silent Fountain by Victoria Fox

Review for The Silent Fountain by Victoria Fox

The Silent Fountain is a gothic and historical romance with a little bit of suspense mixed too. This house has some sinister things going on it. What more could I ask for?

Fox takes us back and forth between Vivien Lockhardt in the 70’s and Lucy Whittaker in the present, and it done so with such grace that it flows right into each other. Never confusing, just completely enthralling and with a pace that kept me turning the pages to see what was going to happen. Vivien is one those characters who you love, but then you want to hate all at the same time. In the end, I found Vivien to be a wonderful woman, and felt her story deep …

This beautifully sweeping story of dueling ambitions and restless hearts in the roaring twenties will captivate fans who loved the romance of the Oscar-winning film La La Land and Paula McLain’s bestselling novel The Paris Wife.

The bohemian salons and wild cabarets of 1920s Paris are just the place for Owen Matthews to pursue his writing and make the right connections in the literary scene. But six years after leaving Los Angeles and the love of his life, he still strives for success. Penning a new screenplay for his friend’s film might just help keep …

Review for Speak Easy, Speak Love by McKelle George

Review for Speak Easy, Speak Love by McKelle George

I had a 5th grade teacher who loved Shakespeare so we read a lot of his work, and this being a retelling of Much Ado About Nothing made me so curious about it and the era of time is one of my favorites. So, Speak Easy, Speak Love was a fantastic and fun read for me.

Beatrice has been sent to live with her Uncle who happens to run a speakeasy in the basement of his home, which she did not know about till she got there. Since the speakeasy isn’t doing so good, her new found friend Hero and cousin has the idea to throw a big party to see if they would be able to save it. So much …

Generally they’re books that have yet to be released. It’s based on Waiting on Wednesday, hosted by the fabulous Jill at Breaking the Spine. If you’re continuing with WOW, feel free to link those up as well!

For this weeks pick, I chose an adult historical fiction by Sherry Thomas that came out in 2016. It takes place in London, with murder and mystery and mentions Charlotte working under the name Sherlock Holmes. Sherlock Holmes! Yes, Please! How could I not want to read this???? Plus, look at that …

Review for A Beautiful Poison by Lydia Kang

Review for A Beautiful Poison by Lydia Kang

I am not much a historical reader, but there are a couple time periods that I really enjoy, anything from the mid teens of the 1900’s to the 1930’s I love to read about. And, A Beautiful Poison is set within this time period and has so many things going for it, there is chemistry as in actual chemistry and murders, mystery and dark family secrets that no one ever wanted to be revealed. A page turner from the start.

Kang did a wonderful job giving us such a vivid picture of the world in 1918. The houses where the wealthy live, the streets and buildings in town. We also see the factories and stores and the apartments where the …
